MONTREAL, March 16, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Pierre Bélanger, Honorary President of the 2013 edition of "Nephrology and its Impact" announced today that the sixth edition of the fundraising event raised $400,000 to support the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Foundation (HMR Foundation). This amount is in addition to the money raised over the past several years, bringing the total to $1,900,000 to support the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Nephrology Department.
In the presence of Sprinter Bruny Surin, and organized as part of the Montreal Impact's 2013 season home opener, the event attracted nearly 350 VIP participants to the Olympic Stadium.
"Aside from the fact that Montreal Impact athletes are profoundly aware of how priceless good health truly is, their association with the HMR Foundation's cause provides a unique opportunity to give something back to the Montreal community that has supported the team since its inception. For these reasons, the entire Impact team is especially proud of its contribution", mentioned Richard Legendre, Executive VP, Montreal Impact and Saputo Stadium.
To quote Mr. Bélanger, the event's Honorary President and Senior Consultant at NATIONAL Public Relations, "With a total of nearly 2 million dollars collected over the past six years as part of the annual "Nephrology and its Impact" fundraising event, we must not forget to underline the dedicated, ongoing, extraordinary work of the volunteers involved in organizing this event year after year. Participants, donors and sponsors can also congratulate themselves for contributing to the efforts of a world-renowned nephrology team.
Once again, this year's event was a great success thanks to the renewed support of the Saputo family and the Montreal Impact, as well as to contributions from Metro and the HMR Foundation's partners.
The HMR Foundation will donate the money raised as part of the fundraiser to doctors Martine Leblanc, Jean-Philippe Lafrance and Vincent Pichette, all members of the Organizing Committee since the creation of the event, and to their respective teams, thus allowing them to pursue their research efforts and enabling the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment that will facilitate the treatment of patients suffering from kidney failure.
