The Montreal Port Authority applauds two years of achievements through the Quebec Maritime Strategy
MONTREAL, April 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - On the occasion of the budgetary considerations presented today by Minister for Maritime Affairs Jean d'Amour at the Quebec National Assembly, the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) noted with satisfaction the progress achieved since the implementation of the Quebec Maritime Study just two years ago.
"Since the Maritime Strategy was adopted, and on a recurring basis, the Quebec government has been sending a strong signal to the marine community and our international clients. Acting as a lever, the Quebec state shows, by taking concrete measures such as the creation of ZIP industrial port zones, that it intends to be present so it can back the key players in the sector and the regions concerned. They are mobilizing behind promising projects like our future container terminal that will be located on our Contrecœur site," said MPA President and CEO Sylvie Vachon.
It is noteworthy that the Port of Montreal is the only container port on the St. Lawrence River and the largest port in Eastern Canada. It has five container terminals. Nine regular services operated by the global leaders in marine shipping connect Montreal to over 140 countries. By the way, this year the Port of Montreal is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the very first container on its docks.
Ms. Vachon added: "The financial support provided under the Maritime Strategy for the major structuring project, namely the rehabilitation of Alexandra Pier and our cruise terminal, enabled us to build modern, functional facilities that meet the needs of all our clients while benefitting both the community and the economy of Montreal and Quebec."
