MONTREAL, March 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Board of Trustees of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal is embarking on a strategic repositioning process, to meet the expectations of the museum's various clienteles and to reflect the business model which is being revisited in keeping with the global cultural and competitive environment.
Meanwhile, the current Director of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Paulette Gagnon, has announced that she will resign from her post as of June 1, proud to have worked as Chief Curator from 1992 to 2009 and as Director for the past four years. "I have put my passion for contemporary art at the service of the museum, and I leave with a feeling of having fulfilled my duty to that institution."
With a devoted and dynamic team behind her, she has worked to make the museum a place of learning, research and dissemination of present-day art with the goal of extending its influence, always putting the public first. Her vision was closely tied to the development of the Collection, programming and education. Over the years, she has helped to enrich the Collection through the acquisition of major works by Québec, Canadian and international artists including, just recently, the acquisition of the first immaterial work of art, This situation, by the artist Tino Sehgal. In terms of major achievements, we have her to thank for some major collaborations with international institutions and the organization of some significant exhibits. These include solo shows devoted to Louise Bourgeois, Shirin Neshat and Anselm Kiefer, the Claude Tousignant retrospective and the organization of the first Québec Triennial 2008.
Paulette Gagnon wishes to thank, very sincerely, all those who have helped her develop this institution.
The Board of Trustees, chaired by Alexandre Taillefer, will be responsible for initiating a search process to fill this position. The Board thanks Paulette Gagnon for having helped the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal to thrive over all these years.
