PICKERING, ON, Nov. 21, 2014 /CNW/ - The Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCI), held its Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference on November 20th at the Ajax Convention Centre with Hon. Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure as the keynote speaker. The Theme of the conference was "Taking the Canadian Nuclear Supply Chain to the World" with a panel discussion on the "Reactor Export Markets and Opportunities for Canadian Nuclear Suppliers". Three great speakers from Ge Hitachi Nuclear Energy International, Westinghouse NPP Group and Candu Energy Inc. participated in panel discussions giving listeners a broad view of significant projects in the International nuclear market. A representative from Foreign Affairs, Trade & Development Canada outlined the range of services that the department offers to Canadian exporters. OCI member companies learned of increased opportunities in the offshore markets that would help generate jobs and growth in Canada's nuclear energy sector.
Minister Brad Duguid spoke on the Ontario government's commitment to enhance nuclear investment opportunities in key markets like China, where demand is soaring for improved air quality and clean sources of energy. He also commented that Ontario exports technology and expertise to countries like Argentina, South Korea, Romania and India.
In November 2013, OCI led a nine-member trade mission to India and met with the Department of Atomic Energy and NPCIL. RelatIn April 2014, OCI also led a nine day trade mission to China with 15 leading Canadian nuclear companies and government entities included meetings and tours with local economic development officials and nuclear companies in the Haiyan region of China. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between OCI and the Haiyan Nuclear Power Related Industrial Alliance in Haiyan and a second MOU was signed on April 17 with the Chinese Nuclear Society.
As well, OCI signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) in August 2014 outlining several ways that OCI and KAIF will work together to identify opportunities on nuclear projects in Korea, Canada, and third world countries in which OCI and KAIF companies can cooperate.
