MONTREAL, March 30, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - As it does every year, the Ordre des dentistes du Québec is marking Oral Health Month, in April, with a province-wide national awareness-building campaign. This year's campaign, on the theme "Une belle bouche, c'est cool!" (A healthy smile is cool!), is aimed at teens ages 12 to 18 and addresses four subjects of interest to them: tooth jewellery, teeth whitening, energy drinks and mouth guards.
Dr. Barry Dolman, President of the Ordre des dentistes du Québec, explains: "Adolescence is a crucial time when it comes to acquiring and maintaining good oral hygiene and healthy habits. It's also a time when we want to try everything. So it's important that our young people and their parents have the reflex to consult a dentist on any matters affecting their oral health, whether it's a question of the risks related to certain fashions or habits, or ways of better protecting their mouths and teeth."
The Order is speaking directly to teens, in co-operation with Cool! magazine, through a contest on the magazine's Facebook page. Every week in April, fans of the page will be invited to enter a draw by reading a short text on one of the four campaign subjects and answering a question. A winner will be chosen every week and two grand prize winners, drawn from all entries, will receive an iPad and an Xbox Kinect.
