The Mamie Clafoutis bakery café will open its doors in June
MONTREAL, Feb. 15, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The smell of freshly-baked bread and croissants will soon be wafting through the air of the Pointe-Nord neighbourhood on Nuns' Island in Montreal (www.pointenord.com). The owners of Mamie Clafoutis, Nicolas Delourmel and Joseph Sabatier, have chosen to open their third bakery café (www.mamieclafoutis.com) in the heart of this eco-community. Local residents will soon be able to sample products baked on site using the traditional family methods that have won fame for the existing bakeries in Outremont and the Plateau.
"A few years ago, when began master planning the Pointe-Nord neighbourhood, we dreamed of the day our residents would be able to sip coffee and eat fresh croissants on Pointe-Nord Avenue", explained Ilan Gewurz, Vice-President of Proment Corporation, the promoter of this eco-community situated just a few minutes from downtown Montreal. "The first residents brought life to the neighbourhood. Mamie Clafoutis is a part of bringing its soul."
The bakery café will include a terrace with unrivalled views of both downtown and the Saint Lawrence River, while a large window will allow customers to watch the bakers at work. Inside the 3,000 square foot space, there will be a lounge area, bar seating and a section serving take-away sandwiches, salads and hot dishes, in addition to the usual fare of breads and pastries.
"We will be offering all our classics as well as some exclusive products, as we like to give our production managers the flexibility to adapt to their location and individual clientele", explained Nicolas Delourmel, co-owner of Mamie Clafoutis. "We're already planning to produce our own Nuns' bread!"
Certified as a LEED ND Gold neighbourhood plan for its environmental standards, Pointe-Nord is already inhabited by residents of ZUNI, a building with 160 condos and 12 townhouses. Evolo 1, the neighbourhood's first 30-storey residential tower is now 90% sold and construction is well under way. It will welcome its first owners this fall. Furthermore, over 30% of the condos in Evolo 2, officially launched a few months ago, have already found owners (www.evolo.ca), and the Esplanade de la Pointe-Nord, the first of three community parks, is currently under construction on the waterfront at the end of Pointe-Nord Avenue. It is expected to be ready by the fall of 2012. Further residential phases and the announcement of new stores and businesses, including a riverfront restaurant, will follow shortly.
About Mamie Clafoutis
In the heart of Outremont, Nicolas Delourmel and Joseph Sabatier have created their own small business Mamie Clafoutis (www.mamieclafoutis.com), using their baking knowledge and expertise and offering the age-old recipes of their grandmothers. Using the best ingredients and traditional production methods, they allow customers to sample and experience the simple joy that comes from bake goods made with care and generosity. Hundreds of Montreal restaurants serve their bread, and the two Mamie Clafoutis bakery cafés on Van Horne Avenue and Saint Denis Street in Montreal offer baguettes, sourdough breads, and many other products. A third boutique will see the light of day in the Pointe-Nord neighbourhood on Nuns' Island in early summer 2012.
