MONTRÉAL, July 13, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Québec Medical Association (QMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) welcome yesterday's announcement by Quebec's Minister of Health and Social Services of a first allocation of $60 million to support home care. The QMA and CMA view this investment as a step in the right direction. Although it is not enough to meet all the needs of the target population, it will help vulnerable groups such as the elderly and the disabled.
"The people affected by this announcement are some of the most vulnerable. They have a precarious medical condition, and their financial situation can be unstable. This $60 million investment is a good start. We should remember that the government's budgetary restrictions have contributed to the erosion of services to the population, as well as other factors such as illegal incidental fees, which are permitted in Quebec," said QMA President Dr. Yun Jen.
"It's time to find innovative and sustainable solutions for the health of our senior citizens. Their needs should be a priority in the negotiation of a new health care accord between the federal government and the provinces and territories," added CMA President Dr. Cindy Forbes.
