The QMA Congratulates Dr. Gaétan Barrette on His Appointment to the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux Français
MONTREAL, April 23, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Québec Medical Association (QMA) congratulates Dr. Gaétan Barrette on being appointed to the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and to the Cabinet of the new government.
Dr. Barrette's extensive experience in health care as a radiology specialist and as the former president of the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec will be an asset in fulfilling his new duties.
The Québec Medical Association will be paying close attention to how the Québec Liberal Party (PLQ) follows through on the commitments and promises it made during the election campaign, especially related to health care funding and the reorganization of care in order to make efficiency gains. Optimizing clinical practice and overdiagnosis are among the QMA's priority issues and the Association plans to continue its work in this area with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.
The QMA will also keep a vigilant watch on government action regarding a potential bill related to end-of-life care. It maintains that the legislative framework proposed by Bill 52, which was the subject of a parliamentary commission, respects the right of access to these services for the public, and the right to conscientious objection for physicians.
The QMA wishes Dr. Barrette and all members of the new Cabinet, the best of luck in carrying out their new duties. The QMA offers the government its medical leadership and full collaboration to help advance any issues that involve medical practice in Québec.
