TORONTO, April 13, 2012 /CNW/ - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Toronto Airport Detachment (TAD) Border Integrity Unit (BIU) today launches its Facebook page to assist with the interdiction of narcotics. This page has been set up to accept anonymous tips and will function in concert with Crimestoppers.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Toronto Airport Detachment Border Integrity Unit is responsible for the delivery of Federal Policing Services at Pearson International Airport, including investigation of offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), as well as other criminal acts committed by groups seeking to exploit one of Canada's largest entry points. As the lead agency in the investigation of drug importation, the RCMP works in concert with other law enforcement partners across the country.
"A primary concern is capitalizing on any measures we can take to protect the integrity of the Canadian Border," stated Inspector Dean Dickson, Officer in Charge of TAD BIU. "With social media we are able to reach new audiences in ways that meet their needs."
The Facebook page- RCMP TPIA Drug Tips- can be accessed by members of the public and employees at Pearson International Airport who have information related to drug importing on or around airport property.
