The real story behind Trump's wealth, as revealed by the New York Times's Susanne Craig
TORONTO, Oct. 29, 2018 /CNW/ - Susanne Craig, an investigative reporter with The New York Times, will share the story behind her investigation debunking President Trump's claim of being a self-made billionaire, at the Canadian Journalism Foundation's (CJF) J-Talk How Trump Got Rich: The Real Story. The event takes place November 8 at the TMX Broadcast Centre in Toronto.
For more than a year, Craig and two colleagues followed an unwieldy paper trail, documenting deliberate tax manoeuvres that increased the wealth Trump received from his parents, including acts of outright fraud.
"Susanne Craig embodies the finest attributes of an investigative reporter," says David Walmsley, CJF chair and editor of The Globe and Mail. "She lives and breathes her stories - for as long as it takes. She chooses the tough subjects and undertakes her work with a clear eye and a heart of fairness. We are delighted to host Susanne back in her native Canada."
Craig, a former Globe journalist, will discuss the complexities of reporting on Trump, money and politics in this conversation with investigative journalist Julian Sher.
This event is part of the annual J-Talks series, which explores pressing media issues.
The CJF thanks the generosity of J-Talks series sponsor BMO Financial Group and in-kind supporter CISION.
