The retrieval and Small small thing receive top honnor at the 9th Montreal International Black Film Festival

MONTREAL, Sept. 29, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The 9^th edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF), created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation and presented by Global Montreal in collaboration with Zupim.com, announced its prizewinners at the Festival's closing ceremonies on September 29, at the Imperial Theater. Winners were selected by a professional jury. Members of the jury for Narrative Feature were: Lewis Cohen, director - President of the jury; David Uloth, director; Danny Blanco-Hall, singer and actor; Anne Lagacé-Dowson, journalist and director of Ensemble; Denis Chouinard, director and professor. The jury for Documentary Feature was made up of: Jennifer Alleyn, artist and director - President of the jury; Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette, director and writer; Paul Tana, director and teacher. For short and mid-length films, the jury included: Michel Monty, director (film and stage) and teacher - President of the jury; Fayolle Jean, actor, director and poet; Philippe Leclerc, Entrepreneur and activist.

Members of the juries evaluated around 100 excellent films from nearly 35 countries according to a set of selection criteria. While all films were outstanding, the following really stood out:

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:
SMALL SMALL THING, by Jessica Vale (USA)

BEST MID-LENGTH DOCUMENTARY:
FINDING HILLYWOOD, by Leah Warshawski & Chistopher Towey (USA, Rwanda)

BEST NARRATIVE SHORT:
KIRUNA-KIGALI, by Goran Kapetanovic (Sweden)
Honorable mention to:
The Runner, by Parker Ellemran (Germany, South Africa)

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT:
MY LAST SWIM, by Lesego Lediga (South Africa)
