TORONTO, Nov. 12, 2015 /CNW/ - For Kelli Cull of Budjon Farms in Lomira, Wisconsin, The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the best place to be. It's no wonder she feels that way because her three-year-old cow, Calli-Red, just won Grand Champion at the National Red and White Holstein show during the 93rd fair.
"The Royal is second to none; this is the best show all year," Cull gushes. "The attention to detail and the pageantry and how the cattle are presented is so different." As she is talking, a blanket of roses is delivered to the stall – the same roses that were just photographed on Calli-Red's back in the show ring when she earned her championship banner.
Kelli and Tom Cull have been showing cattle all their lives and were involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. They have their own herd offering genetics and they love coming to The Royal to show their best stock. They won Grand Champion Black and White Holstein in 2013 and now they have another title-holder.
"Part of winning is luck, but it's also our breeding program and it all came together today," Cull says. "For us to take on the expense to come here and to end up with a Grand Champion, well, it's worth it. We've already booked our hotel for next year!"
Reserve Grand Champion was four-year-old Meadow Green Absolute Fanny shown by Triple T Holsteins of North Lewisburg, Ohio.
The Royal is supported in part by the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario.
The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the world's largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show. This year, the 93rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair runs November 6-15, 2015 at Exhibition Place, Toronto.
