WINDSOR, ON, Aug. 20, 2018 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army today announced the closure of its Thrift Store located at 1720 Walker Road, Windsor Ontario which will be effective on September 1, 2018.
"This decision has been an incredibly difficult one for The Salvation Army Thrift Store as we greatly value the work and dedication of our employees and recognize the role our store has played in the Windsor community," said Ted Troughton, Managing Director, Salvation Army Thrift Store, Canada. "After significant assessment of our operations and alternative options, we came to the unfortunate realization that it is no longer financially viable for us to continue operating this store. We want to thank our 19 employees affected by this decision, as well as the Windsor community, for all of their support over the years."
The Salvation Army is committed to supporting and accommodating our staff and is working closely with those impacted Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to ensure our employees are treated with respect, care and compassion during this process.
The Salvation Army is proud of its role in the community and is committed to continuing to serve the City through our regular Community and Family Services. Residents of The City of Windsor can continue to access The Army's support through various services and programs, including its local Food Bank, Life Enrichment Programs, Community Meals, Christmas toys and food assistance, Emergency Shelter, Housing, Spiritual Care and Emergency Disaster Assistance. Windsor residents can also access the Essex Thrift Store at 15 Talbot St N. less than 30 minutes from Windsor. Any donations can be brought to the Essex Thrift Store.
"The Salvation Army is proud of our long-standing presence in the Windsor community, and want to reassure residents that we will continue to serve and support the community locally. We welcome and encourage residents to access our various support programs as needed," said Major Pat Phinney, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations and Development.
The Windsor Thrift Store will be winding down operations over the coming weeks, with final closure effective as of 6pm, Saturday September 1, 2018.
