The Salvation Army Continues To Help Residents Recover From Floods

TORONTO, April 26, 2013 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army continues to help those affected by the flooding in Muskoka and the Hastings area north of Cobourg. Teams of volunteers are offering food, shelter, clothing and emotional support to those in need.

"With the help of volunteers from many communities The Salvation Army will continue to respond to the needs of residents throughout the recovery process," said Colonel Susan van Duinen, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army. "Our Emergency Disaster Services teams are in the communities offering hope and comfort to those impacted by the floods."

The Salvation Army is currently responding in the following areas:

• In Bracebridge, city officials have requested The Salvation Army oversee its response. The Salvation Army will also be the main point of contact for individuals, groups and businesses who wish to volunteer.
  
  
• In Huntsville, The Salvation Army is continuing their recovery operation in providing support, housing and practical items (such as clothing and hygiene products) for those who have been displaced.
  
  
• The Salvation Army in Fenelon Falls and Lindsay are gathering volunteer teams to assist at Burnt River this weekend to provide food and beverages to 70 members of the Damage Assessment Team working in that area.
  
  
• A canteen from Oshawa was dispatched yesterday to the Hastings area (north of Cobourg) to support 60-70 people sandbagging, as waters rose in that area.  Salvation Army volunteer teams in Cobourg have also responded.

"The Salvation Army is trained and always ready to assist in times of crises offering food, water, clothing and personal items as well as emotional and spiritual support when needed.  We will continue to be on the frontlines offering hope to those displaced by the floodwaters," said Jeffrey Robertson, spokesperson for The Salvation Army.
