The Salvation Army in Barrie Celebrates 135 Years of Service
The City of Barrie proclaims the week of May 18th to 27th 2018 as Salvation Army Week
BARRIE, ON, May 10, 2018 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army in Barrie is celebrating 135 years of providing hope and compassion to the community. The City of Barrie will proclaim the week of May 18th to 27th 2018 as 'Salvation Army Week' to commemorate the dedication and hard work of its staff and volunteers since 1883.
The Salvation Army meets the needs of men, women and children through faith based programs and practical assistance. Our church, on Lillian Cr. offers worship services, youth programming, Bible study, fellowship groups, hospital and nursing visitation and pastoral care. The Bayside Mission serves the most vulnerable in our community through its shelter program, community meals and life skills training. The Salvation Army in Barrie also offers assistance such as emergency food, hot meals, clothing and emotional support to individuals and families through our Community and Family Services, Thrift Store, Correctional and Justice Services and Emergency Disaster Services.
"As we mark 135 years in our community, I am reminded that over the years The Salvation Army continues to care for those in need with the kind and generous support of the community as strong partners in giving hope to the city's most vulnerable. We are forever grateful," said Captain Andrew Watkinson, Corps Officer at the Barrie Citadel.
In celebration of this special occasion The Salvation Army will be hosting a number of events.
