The Salvation Army Kicks off the 2018 Christmas Kettle Campaign this Weekend
The 2018 Christmas Kettle Campaign goal is $550,000 to support those in need in Ottawa
OTTAWA, Nov. 15, 2018 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign rolls out Saturday, November 17th and runs through December 24th. This year's campaign goal is set at $550,000 to meet the needs of individuals and families in our community. This year 43 Christmas Kettles will be out in shopping centres and stores around the city of Ottawa.
Money raised during the campaign stays local, helping to fund vital programs serving thousands of people in need in our community. It helps provide nutritious meals through our Community Food Line as well as emergency food and clothing to families and individuals.
The campaign also supports our Emergency Disaster Services program, which offers 24/7 deployment of food, water, clothing, and emotional and spiritual care for displaced individuals and families as a result of fires, disasters and emergencies. Some examples include last year's flooding and this year's tornadoes in Ottawa. It also supports our emergency services personnel responding to a disaster.
The Christmas Kettle Campaign also supports programs for young parents and their children, community after school programs including sports, music and youth groups and helps fill the shelves of our food banks. It also funds our Nourish programs and Nourish Garden to promote healthy eating and provide fresh produce to families.
"Thank you to this generous community for supporting The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign every year," said Divisional Secretary for Public Relations Glenn van Gulik. "Every dollar put into a kettle stays local to support programs here in Ottawa."
Donations can be made in person at a kettle with cash or cheque or online at FillTheKettle.com
The Salvation Army is also looking for Christmas Kettle volunteers. To volunteer as a Christmas Kettle attendant sign up at www.salvationarmyottawa.ca/kettles or call 613-241-1573 x 332.
This year we challenge the public to share their photos and videos of how and where they filled the kettle using the hashtag #Ifilledthekettle on Twitter @Salvation_Army or on Facebook @SalvationArmyOttawa.
