The Salvation Army Thrift Store Expands Into Southwest Calgary
CALGARY, Sept. 26, 2016 /CNW/ - Communities in Southwest Calgary will gain increased support from The Salvation Army Thrift Store with the addition of one of the larger retail locations in Canada.
The over 14,000 feet location is situated at 121-58th Avenue Southwest and is the fourth Salvation Army Thrift Store to join the city of Calgary. Having opened its doors to the public in early September, the Thrift Store will be hosting its official Grand Opening on Friday, September 30th.
"We really felt it was important to heighten our presence in Southwest Calgary to provide additional retail and recycling opportunities to neighbourhoods in the city," said Dave Moulton, The Salvation Army Thrift Store's Regional Retail District Manager. "There is one in 10 neighbours living in poverty in Calgary. With this store, our first in the Southwest area of the city, we want to better serve them and our guests who are all a part of our family."
In the last fiscal year, April 2015 – March 2016, through the Thrift Store's GoodWorks@WorkTM initiatives and voucher program over $80,000 was given in support of local Salvation Army programs and services to assist children, individuals and families in need throughout Calgary.
At the Grand Opening, there will be refreshments, a special gift for the first 50 guests who make a purchase. Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra of Ward 9 will be at the event alongside the Thrift Store's National Leadership Team and Karen Livick, Executive Director of The Salvation Army's Community Services in Calgary to meet community members. Donors will also receive ten dollar coupons for bringing in a donation.
"Donations are always needed, especially in household items, and we encourage the community to see us as an easy and meaningful way of recycling. By shopping and donating with us, you are making a real difference in the lives of those in need and the environment at the local level," added Moulton.
The store includes a dedicated Donor Welcome Centre, special savings in clothing for children and adults, antiques, furniture, collectables, books, electronics, small appliances, dinnerware and the recently launched Booth Sleep Line. Donations are accepted seven days a week.
Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday. The Donor Welcome Centre is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sundays 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
