The Salvation Army to Benefit from CNE Food Drive - Donations will support services throughout the GTA
TORONTO, Aug. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army in the Greater Toronto Area is thrilled to partner with the Canadian National Exhibition in a Food Drive that will benefit and support Salvation Army programs throughout the region.
The CNE is participating in an international Food Drive initiative organized by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions to collect non-perishable food items for vulnerable members of the community.
Visitors are encouraged to contribute to this initiative during the 18 days of the CNE and collection bins will be placed at the Princes', GO/TTC and Saskatchewan gates, with all food received during the CNE going to support the services of The Salvation Army.
"We are thrilled that our long-standing relationship with the CNE will continue and indebted to them for their support," said Andrew Burditt, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations and Development for the Ontario Central East Division of The Salvation Army. "The availability of nutritious food is something that many of us take for granted and this food drive will enable us to continue to serve the vulnerable and marginalized in communities throughout the GTA."
All food collected will be distributed via Salvation Army ministry units. Each year, more than 7 million pounds of food is distributed by The Salvation Army in this region, providing hope and dignity to many who might otherwise go without.
