The School of Alberta Ballet announces Alberta Ballet II Audition Tour
CALGARY, April 16, 2014 /CNW/ - The School of Alberta Ballet is pleased to officially announce Alberta Ballet II – Canada's newest program for emerging professional dancers. Alberta Ballet II is an innovative project created to attract Canada's top-level dancers who are on the verge of successful professional careers. Led by Director Aram Manukyan this free, one-to-two year program for emerging artists will launch on June 30, 2014. Members are chosen through a competitive, Canada-wide audition tour.
In 2014-2015, members of Alberta Ballet II will join Alberta Ballet onstage in productions such as Don Quixote, The Three Musketeers, and The Nutcracker – working with Alberta Ballet's Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître and visiting guest artists throughout the year. Our emerging artists will work with invited choreographers and Alberta Ballet artistic staff to create exclusive works and learn existing Alberta Ballet repertoire. Members of Alberta Ballet II will be paid honorariums as well as a shoe allowance when performing onstage with Alberta Ballet.
In addition to working with Alberta Ballet, Alberta Ballet II will form an integral part of Alberta Ballet's education and outreach programs – touring and performing for over 10,000 Albertans in 2014-2015. Alberta Ballet II is designed to bridge the gap between school and a professional career in ballet. Our emerging artists will receive intensive daily instruction as well as professional development opportunities – giving them the tools to successfully audition for, perform with, and excel in professional dance companies around the world.
