Women's Executive Network launches nomination phase for annual Awards – announces creation of new scholarship through the WXN Foundation
TORONTO, March 8, 2017 /CNW/ - The Women's Executive Network (WXN) officially announces the launch of nominations for Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards on International Women's Day, to recognize the incredible accomplishments of women in leadership roles.
The Awards serve to identify leaders and inspire the current and next generations of women and men to push the boundaries and to continue to help break the glass ceiling. Nominations are now open online through May 19, 2017.
"International Women's Day is the perfect time to launch nominations for this year's awards as it serves to remind us of the importance of empowering women, something WXN has been doing for the last 20 years," said Sherri Stevens, CEO of WXN. "Current world events have demonstrated just how far and bumpy a road we have in front of us to ensure gender diversity and equity is achieved in all walks of life. We need to showcase the leaders that are helping to drive positive change and progress, especially in today's climate."
Through the Top 100 Awards, WXN not only celebrates the achievement of women but also supports several initiatives that promote mentorship and networking opportunities for the next generation of young leaders. Nomination fees from the Awards fund the important work of the WXN Foundation, which provides $100,000 in entrance-level scholarships across the country through its Scholarship Fund, with a focus on Fine Arts, Engineering, Aboriginal Business and Entrepreneurship.
Thanks to the success of the program, the WXN Foundation is announcing a new scholarship this year — the WXN Strength in Diversity Award for New Canadians. Partnering with Wilfrid Laurier University, this scholarship is designed for new arrivals to Canada who need assistance in pursuing their post-secondary studies and will provide $25,000 in awards over five years.
"The WXN Foundation is critical to the ongoing success of the organization and its mandate to empower young women across the country to pursue their education and advance towards executive roles. This new scholarship is an exciting and important step in advancing that goal to all Canadians," said Stevens.
The WXN Foundation also supports Canadian women by contributing to charitable endeavors that align with WXN's mission and values of equality, community, passion, and integrity. With the support of WXN's partners and members, and funds raised through the Top 100 Awards, more than $230,000 has been generously donated to 250 charitable and not-for-profit organizations.
