CORNWALL, ON, May 10, 2012 /CNW/ - The Seaway International Bridge Corporation, Ltd. (SIBC) is preparing to relocate the existing toll booth to a new plaza, to be located at the north end of the new bridge, on the canal lands near Cornwall's snow storage facility.
The new bridge, connecting Cornwall, Ontario to Cornwall Island in the St. Lawrence River, is part of the Three Nations International Crossing. The new bridge project is being managed by the Federal Bridge Corporation, Ltd. (FBCL), owner of the Canadian portion of the crossing.
"Relocating the existing toll booth will be a real challenge for our operation and maintenance staff", says Hendrik Saaltink, General Manager, "but it is by far the most economical alternative". Saaltink concluded that "The Seaway International Bridge Corporation needs to be ready to collect tolls when the new bridge opens up to traffic."
SIBC operates and maintains the Three Nations Bridge Crossing on behalf of the crossing owners, the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and FBCL. The crossing is mainly funded with bridge toll revenue. The Corporation does not receive government appropriations for its operations.
