The Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre of Peel Thanks the Community for
Responding to its Plea for Help!

TORONTO, July 21 /CNW/ - The Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre of Peel (SA/RCCP) would like to express their humble gratitude to the diverse community of Peel and its residents and businesses, the survivors' community and our funders, the Ontario Ministry of Attorney General and the United Way of Peel Region for their ongoing support in making survivors count. With this generous support SA/RCCP was able to complete its 2009-2010 financial year with a small surplus.

In December 2009 the agency was extremely concerned that it would not be able to provide essential services to members of the community who were either directly or indirectly affected by sexual violence. The SA/RCCP held two fundraising events, 1st Annual "And Still We Rise" Gala held on December 6, 2009 and its 9th Annual Bowlathon held on March 28, 2010. Both these events were hugely successful and SA/RCCP would like to humbly thank the supporters of these events. Thanks to the donations and sponsorships raised the Centre is able to continue to provide its services to all women and children within the community whom have been affected by sexual violence.

The SA/RCCP hopes that the community of Peel will continue to rally around survivors and the Centre as it further strengthens its operations to respond to the challenging and complex needs of survivors within the region. Alarmingly 1 in 2 Women will be a victim of Sexual Violence in her lifetime.

The SA/RCCP is one of few services in the region that supports women and children survivors of sexual violence through a survivor's counseling program and a survivor's crisis helpline. The SA/RCCP also provides public education services which aim to educate the community in order to aid in eradicating this debilitating form of violence.
