The Sinclair celebrates 20 year milestone and raises $700,000 for WICC & MRU scholarships
CALGARY, June 13, 2014 /CNW/ - On June 2nd, The Sinclair Insurance Industry Charity Golf Tournament marked its 20th anniversary with tremendous support from sponsors and a host of others across all industry sectors raising a record-breaking $76,000 in 2014. This brings the 20 year total to over $700,000 raised for its beneficiaries.
"As I stood in sunshine listening to the bagpipes and waving to the departing golfers, dressed in my new green Masters jacket, I realized how fortunate I had been in my chosen career," said Jim Sinclair, the man for which the tournament was named. "Then it was off to my course office where the bar is always open to shake hands and have a wee dram with all the people who make the tournament profitable and possible. Saying 'thanks' to all seemed so inadequate."
Jim wasn't the only one pleased with the success of the tournament. Insurance professionals came from coast-to-coast to support and celebrate 20 years of The Sinclair; in particular, individuals who had been mentored by Jim early in their careers. "When I saw what the tournament had turned in to and what Jim has accomplished for the community and charities, I was more than impressed. Who else could have done all that and continue to improve 20 years on?" said Mack Rooney, a former employee of Jim's.
All funds raised from The Sinclair will go to support Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) and scholarships for Mount Royal University Bissett School of Business students.
The Sinclair was initiated in 1995 by a small group of Calgary adjusters, company executives and brokers. It is Alberta's only all insurance industry charity event. The tournament was namehttp://www.slideshare.net/KatMacaulay/what-is-casl-by-rogers-insurance-april2014d in recognition of retired Guardian Insurance Senior Vice President, Jim Sinclair, who made significant contributions to his industry across Canada, particularly in the west, during a distinguished career spanning 40 years. The 2014 tournament was held at the Heritage Pointe Golf Course.
