The Société pour la promotion d'événements culturels du Haut-Richelieu or Upper Richelieu Society for the Promotion of Cultural Events (SPEC) was founded in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in 1989. Its mission is to promote artistic, cultural and community activities and cultural development in the greater Upper Richelieu area.
The SPEC du Haut-Richelieu presents a wide range of performances at the Théâtre des Deux Rives and Cabaret-Théâtre du Vieux-Saint-Jean and hosts 150 to 175 performances on a yearly basis.
The project that will receive funding from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund will involve acquiring state-of-the-art sound and projection equipment to replace outdated items. This is the first of two phases of funding to acquire the necessary equipment in the short- to medium-term.
The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund helps bolster the quality of equipment to support innovation in the arts, heritage and creative fields. The Fund supports renovation and construction projects, the acquisition of specialized equipment and conducting feasibility studies on cultural spaces.
The Canada Arts Presentation Fund provides funding to organizations that host arts festivals or seasonal professional-performance programs. The Fund also supports organizations that back arts broadcasters.
