The Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau a resounding success as $2,850,000 raised for children with cancer! Français
MONTREAL, July 4, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - A festive and euphoric atmosphere reigned as the riders in the 19th edition of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau reached their destination after cycling close to 1,600 kilometres throughout Quebec in the shared hope of bringing an end to forms of cancer affecting children. Spirits were running high as the Tour's six spokespersons - Pierre Bruneau, Paul Doucet, Pierre Jobin, Ève Landry, Julie Marcoux and Luce Dufault - and 200 or so cyclists celebrated the event's great success: the sum of more than $2,850,000 was raised, and the proceeds will go toward financing projects in the area of pediatric oncology.
Families, friends and colleagues gathered at Parc de la Mairie in Boucherville to welcome home the cyclists. It was an emotional moment for the six young heroes of this 19th edition: Émilie, Laurianne, Arianne, Adam, Mathieu and Félix-Antoine were overwhelmed by the wave of support and encouragement.
"It's always so touching and inspiring to see all these cyclists brave the elements and the winding roads of Quebec for the cause. Some come back year after year, while others are taking part for the first time; but collectively we feel an indescribable sense of pride and accomplishment when we see that we've made it," said an emotional Pierre Bruneau, founder of the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau and one of the cyclists in the Tour's four-day trek. "Above and beyond our desire to meet our financial objective, we draw our motivation, with each kilometre, from the courage and hope that glimmers in the eyes of these children. These children inspire us and incite us to surpass our limitations."
The four-day trek got underway in Rimouski on July 1, 2014, as 32 cyclists set out to ride close to 700 kilometres through Montmagny, Victoriaville and St-Hyacinthe, where an extra 100 cyclists joined them for the final leg of the Tour. Quebec City, Sherbrooke and (for the first time) Gatineau also served as points of departure for the three separate two-day treks presented as part of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau.
Again this year, the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau benefitted from the invaluable support of the CIBC. For Sylvain Vinet, Senior Vice-President, Retail Markets, Eastern Canada, CIBC, the association is a natural one.
"I'm extremely proud of the CIBC employees who worked hard to collect funds for children with cancer and their families," said Mr. Vinet. "I would like to thank all those who contributed to the event's success: our CIBC employees, clients and partners, and the organizers, without whom none of this would have been possible. Each year, the CIBC's commitment to the cause grows stronger, and it has helped to make this fundraising event one of the largest in Quebec. The CIBC's employees, clients and partners are pleased to remit the sum of $700,000 to the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau. More than $3.9M has been remitted to the cause of children with cancer since 2006 and we're extremely thankful."
The Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau wishes to thank all its sponsors-partners as well as the volunteers and other stakeholders who played a part, directly or indirectly, in the great success of this 19th edition of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau.
