The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Releases Report into the March 2011 Main-Track Derailment of a CP train near Fernie, British Columbia

GATINEAU, QC, May 9, 2012 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) today released its final investigation report (R11V0057) into the 2011 derailment of a Canadian Pacific (CP) coal train near Fernie, British Columbia. The report is available on the TSB website at www.bst-tsb.gc.ca.

On 8 March 2011, a CP Coal Train was travelling westward on the Cranbrook Subdivision when 27 cars packed with coal derailed near Fernie, British Columbia. There were no injuries. The investigation found the derailment happened when a wheel from a car dropped inside the rail.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
