- Benefit concert will raise funds for the Toronto-based Remix Project - Sales of limited edition RE*Generation Samsung Link(TM) phone expected to raise over $200,000 to fight youth homelessness
TORONTO, May 3 /CNW/ - Canadian rock sensations The Trews will be playing one of their incredible acoustic sets at Toronto's Opera House on May 27, 2010 to support Virgin Mobile Canada's RE*Generation movement. In partnership with Virgin Unite Canada, the non-profit foundation of the Virgin group of companies, the RE*Generation movement expects to raise over $200,000 this year for Canadian programs, including the Toronto-based Remix Project, that support at-risk and homeless youth. The funds will be raised through The Trews' upcoming benefit concert and the sale of the RE*Generation Samsung Link(TM) phone, which hits stores today.
"With more than 65,000 homeless youth in Canada, we're leading a movement to create awareness and find solutions," said Robert Blumenthal, President, Virgin Mobile Canada. "Through our partnership with Virgin Unite and RE*Generation events like this benefit concert with The Trews, we'll not only raise much needed funds, but also create awareness and inspire our communities to find ways to help innovative local programs like the Remix Project."
The Trews will take the stage at the Opera House following featured performances by singer-songwriter Peter Elkas and Dana, a Remix Project graduate. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the show on Thursday, May 27, 2010. Tickets will be available beginning May 5, 2010 for $20, plus service charges and taxes through ticketmaster.ca.
The Remix Project is an arts, cultural and life skills incubator serving young people across the GTA but is located right in the heart of Toronto. Through its 6-month program, Remix works to help some of the most gifted but vulnerable young people in the city realize their own creative and business-minded potential while working to strengthen Toronto's burgeoning creative industry.
The Phone That Does Some Good
Virgin Mobile Canada, in partnership with Samsung, is launching the Limited Edition RE*Generation Samsung Link phone in May, 2010. Ten dollars from each sale of the 20,000 phones available will be donated directly to the RE*Generation Program on behalf of Virgin Mobile Canada and Samsung. Limited quantities of the RE*Generation Samsung Link phone are available for $69.99 from The Source and Virgin Mobile Stores from the beginning of May.
"We're pleased to be an ongoing supporter of the RE*Generation movement and support youth at-risk and homelessness in Canada by doing our part to help find solutions," said Paul Brennan, Samsung Electronics Canada.
The RE*Generation Samsung Link has a full QWERTY keyboard to make it simple to fire away texts and instant messages at rocket speed. Connect with ease with up to five different personal email accounts through Virgin Mobile email and keep up with your friends on Facebook(R) with the one-touch Facebook button. Plus, it comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera so you can snap all your fave pics. All of this, wrapped up in a red package, helps raise funds and awareness for at-risk and homeless youth in our communities.
The RE*Generation Movement
In early 2008, Virgin Mobile Canada and Virgin Unite, the non-profit foundation of the Virgin group of companies, joined together to create the RE*Generation movement and empower a generation to help its own. We're bringing together organizations that care about Canada's homeless and at-risk youth and we're connecting them with people who want to help. RE*Generation is a movement that supports youth homelessness and at-risk youth programs in Canada. To date, over $500,000 has been raised and dispersed to leading youth serving agencies across the country. The RE*Generation movement is working with a number of Canadian charitable partners to help get kids off the streets and onto a path for a brighter future.
