MONTRÉAL, June 13, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ville de Montréal's auditor general, Ms. Michèle Galipeau, submitted her first annual report to city council yesterday. In accordance with the provisions of the Cities and Towns Act, Ms. Galipeau forwarded her first annual report, covering the year 2016, to Mayor Denis Coderre on June 9, 2017.
Ms. Galipeau's mandate began on August 15, 2016. As expected, the mayor tabled the report at the municipal council meeting held yesterday afternoon and will do the same at the urban agglomeration council meeting on June 15th.
The auditor general's primary responsibility is to audit the financial statements of the City and the organizations it controls or includes within its reporting entity. The auditor general is also responsible for auditing the City's compliance with laws, regulations, policies and directives as well as for the value-for-money audit, which includes the IT audit.
The report includes seven value-for-money and information technology audits. The audits contained in the 2016 annual report are:
- Management of the emerald ash borer and the tree canopy
- Sustainable water management
- Traffic Light management
- Éco-Quartier Program and Eco-centres
- The Système évolué de radiocommunications de l'agglomération de Montréal (SERAM) Project
- Transfo-HR Program Management
- Physical Penetration tests
Auditor General's mission
The mission of the Ville de Montréal's auditor general is to give the municipal council and citizens a fair accounting regarding the diligent and optimal use of public funds by the municipal administration. By means of fully independent audits and the publication of reports, which are available to the public, the auditor general plays a critical role in promoting the transparency and accountability of municipal operations.
