The Water Brothers featured speakers at The Green Living Show
City of Toronto officially endorses the QUENCH App
TORONTO, April 12, 2012 /CNW/ - The QUENCH mobile app has been officially endorsed by The City of Toronto and is available for all smart phone platforms. The app is the brainchild of The Water Brothers whose eco-adventure TV series recently launched on TVO during Water Week, and which is currently airing Tuesday nights at 7:30PM. The Water Brothers is also available on-line anytime at tvo.org/waterbrothers.
The Water Brothers, Alex and Tyler Mifflin, will be the featured speakers for Eco Youth Day at the Green Living Show (Main Stage) on Friday April 13th at 11:30AM. They will be talking about their adventures filming the series around the world, their passion for protecting our most precious resource - water and the issues that face water preservation globally.
As an extension of their commitment to water, the brothers developed the free mobile app QUENCH. Quench instantly connects users to the nearest water fountain or official water bottle re-fill location, in stores and restaurants in the Greater Toronto area. QUENCH provides a convenient choice for water drinkers. "Hopefully, it will help reduce the impact of the hundreds of millions of plastic water bottles discarded in Canadian landfills each year," says Alex Mifflin. "We are really grateful to TVO and The Bell New Media Fund for helping us make this app a reality," added Tyler Mifflin.
The Water Brothers will conduct demonstrations of the QUENCH app during their speaking engagement at The Green Living Show. The Water Brothers urge all interested users to visit the QUENCH booth where they can download the FREE app and win prizes from Bobble and The Water Brothers team.
Season 1 of The Water Brothers launched to great acclaim during Canada Water Week (March 19 - 25) and the series has been green lit by TVO for a second season.

The entire production team really appreciates TVO for its investment in this important series. The viewer feedback has been great and the series has already been nominated for international awards.
Why is the QUENCH Mobile App important?
Toronto has some of the cleanest and safest tap water in the world and Toronto Water is proud of this high quality. The Water Brothers want people to have barrier-free access to clean, healthy water. For the outdoor enthusiast, cyclist, runner, walker, tourist and urban adventurer, this FREE app will be an important tool to keep you conveniently hydrated and cut down on your use of bottled water, not to mention saving you money. If people have allergies to trace amounts of chlorine, they can still look at filtering bottles like Bobble.
How does QUENCH work?
QUENCH uses a database of clean water Re-fill Locations that allows you to search by either entering a specific address or intersection or using your current location via the internal GPS in your smart phone.
QUENCH Features Include:
- Search by current location (GPS)
- Search by destination
- Get directions to the location
- Share water fountain or Re-fill Location information, location and/or directions
- Add your own water fountain and/or suggested Re-fill Location
- Add pictures, comment and rate your favorite water fountain and/or Re-fill Location
How can I download QUENCH?
QUENCH is available for FREE from TVO's Mobile Apps and directly from thewaterbrothers.ca/quench.
QUENCH data is also available through The Water Brothers website (thewaterbrothers.ca/quench). QUENCH is part of the web based BlueW network (www.bluew.org).
What is an Official Re-fill Location?
QUENCH is supported by official Re-fill Locations across the Greater Toronto area. These are local businesses such as restaurants and retailers who are willing to provide tap water to visitors carrying reusable bottles. Participating Re-fill Locations have an eye catching QUENCH decal displayed in their front window and are listed through the mobile app.
How can I become an official QUENCH Re-fill Station?
Community businesses, like restaurants and cafes, are an important part of how the QUENCH mobile app works. The benefits to participating business are plentiful and their willingness to provide tap water to visitors carrying reusable bottles, will deliver increased walk-in foot traffic and recognition as a community - orientated business. For more information about how you can sign up your business please contact Evan Pilkington at [email protected].
Blue W is a national not-for-profit network of Water Re-fill Locations. The QUENCH mobile app will help Blue W by joining its network to add Toronto to its growing database.
