There's no sibling rivalry for this trio of Royal winners

TORONTO, Nov. 8, 2015 /CNW/ - It's a family affair for many livestock contestants at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF). For the Lasby family of Shelburne it is multi-generational and involves a partnership between siblings as well. Jessica, Joshua and Justin, all in their 20s, took Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Female with JDL Janice 11X 119C.

"We own our own cattle," explains Jessica of the sibling partnership. "It's a family decision which animals are the most promising and then we work with them all year and, if they work well, we bring them to The Royal." Obviously, JDL Janice was a good choice because she also took the ribbon for Champion Intermediate Calf.

The Lasby children are the latest in the long history of the family's connection to the RAWF. Their father David Lasby has been coming to The Royal since he was a baby when his parents showed cattle. The family shows under the names JDL Cattle Co and D & S Livestock and collectively, they won the Daily Herdsman Award for the presentation of their stall space.

"Coming to The Royal is a good experience for us," Jessica continues. She says their presence is good advertising for their small herd as well. This is the third year in a row the siblings have shown the Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Female and they intend to keep coming back chasing the, so far, elusive Grand Champion banner.

"I think I will always show cattle," says Jessica. Her family has been showing cattle for decades and they have the ribbons to prove it. She and her brothers are already successful in following family tradition.
