There's still time for students to apply for $30,000 in scholarships
EDMONTON, Sept. 17, 2014 /CNW/ - There are a few days left for students to submit their application to the Servus Credit Union's Young & Free Alberta scholarship program.
In its fifth year, the program will again award $1,000 scholarships to 30 attending a post-secondary institution in Alberta this fall.
"We're excited to be in our fifth year of the Young & Free Scholarship program," said Michelle Belland, Acting Chief Brand & CSR Officer, Servus Credit Union. "This year we're asking students to tell us how they've grown by exploring their own province. It's a great way to celebrate the growth and development of our Young & Free members and to make a difference in the lives of 30 students."
Servus' Young & Free Scholarship program differs from other scholarship programs in that it places less emphasis on academic achievement and more on what the applicant learned in their own backyard.
"Students have one more week to submit their applications," adds Belland. "We've received some terrific, engaging applications and we know we'll be receiving many more great stories."
This year's question is: What is the most educational trip you've taken in Alberta? What did you learn and why was the trip important to you?
To apply, students must:
- Be between the ages of 17 and 25
- Be attending a post-secondary institution in Alberta for the 2014/15 school year
- Reside in Alberta
- Have achieved a minimum 70% grade point average in your last academic year
- Be a member of Servus Credit Union (Not a member? Sign up for the Young & Free Chequing Account today.)
Applications are being accepted online at www.youngfreealberta.com until Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014.
Scholarship applicants are also eligible for the People's Choice Bonus contest. From Sept. 29 to Oct. 14, 2014, the public can vote for their favourite scholarship applicant at www.youngfreealberta.com. The three applicants with the most votes will each win a $400 travel package.
Scholarship recipients and People's Choice Bonus contest winners will be announced on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014.
