Thomas to LCBO, show some recognition for your frontline workers during this pandemic
TORONTO, April 25, 2020 /CNW/ - OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas is calling on the LCBO to follow the lead of the Ford government and provide its front-line workers with some type of pandemic recognition pay.
"This is a corporation that pulls in two-billion a year, surely they can afford to recognize the efforts of their workers who are keeping stores operating during this unprecedented crisis," said Thomas.
"I commend the Ford government for providing $4 an hour to many of its public sector front-line workers. The LCBO, fresh off a month of record profits, should also be able to provide something to its front-line staff. Talk to us, we will work something out that is fair."
"Premier Ford has gone beyond just words to show he is grateful to his front-line employees for their efforts during this pandemic," said Thomas. "The LCBO has been deemed an essential service and its employees deserve recognition that they are risking their health, the health of their families and even their lives day in and day out."
Thomas called on LCBO CEO George Soleas to do the right thing.
"Come on George, your front-line retail, warehouse and office employees are taking all the risks, do the decent thing and show them how much the LCBO appreciates their heroic efforts. We certainly know the public does."
