National fitness fundraiser supports physical activity programs targeting schools, kids with special needs
LONDON, ON, Feb. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - On Saturday, March 4, months of planning and fundraising efforts will culminate in Spin4Kids, one of Canada's largest indoor fitness fundraisers. Taking place at over 65 locations across the country, Spin4Kids benefits GoodLife Kids Foundation with the purpose of giving every Canadian kid the opportunity to live a fit and healthy good life.
Funds raised support two key initiatives that are getting kids active. The GoodLife4Kids School Program is a partnership program with local teachers helping to teach fitness skills to grade 4 students at no cost to schools. In 2016, the program reached over 3,500 kids at 100 partner schools, with GoodLife4Kids Coaches delivering a total of 3,000 fitness hours. The GoodLife Kids Grant Program provides funding for programs offering ongoing physical activity opportunities for children with special needs. In 2016, 76 organizations received grants of up to $10,000 to improve local access to adapted physical activity programs for this underserved population.
This year, event organizers are asking the question, "What Moves You?"
"We're asking people to take a moment to reflect on what draws them to our cause," says Lisa Burrows, Executive Director of GoodLife Kids Foundation. "Many of our Spin4Kids participants are passionate about the positive impact that fitness has had on their lives and the lives of others. At GoodLife Kids Foundation, we work to bring those physical activity and fitness opportunities to Canadian children through school and community-based programs, helping them develop healthy habits and a lifelong love of being active."
Spin4Kids is open to everyone – participants do not have to be members of GoodLife, and no experience is needed. As individuals or in teams of up to eight, participants will spin, groove, and move in high-energy group fitness classes such as indoor cycling, BODYATTACK™, BODYFLOW™ and Zumba®. Spin4Kids brings a party atmosphere to the day's workout, featuring great music, special guests, silent auction items, decorations and costumes.
This year's national fundraising goal is $1.2 Million. Help give more Canadian kids the opportunity to live fit and healthy lives by visiting spin4kids.com. Register to participate, donate to an existing team, or learn more today!
