WINNIPEG, Aug. 4, 2016 /CNW/ - The registration for the following flaxseed varieties will be cancelled effective August 1, 2017. At that time, these varieties will be removed from the variety designation list for flaxseed:
- CDC Arras
- Flanders
- Somme
As of August 1, 2017, these varieties will only be eligible for the lowest grade.
Quick facts
- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency registers grain varieties and is also responsible for cancelling the registration of varieties. The Canadian Grain Commission designates which registered varieties are eligible for delivery into specific classes of grain.
- As per a protocol established with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in 2009, the Canadian Grain Commission provides three years' notice when a grain variety's registration is cancelled at the request of the breeder.
