Three local wishes come true
DARTMOUTH, NS, June 29 /CNW/ - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada is proud to announce that the wishes of three young Nova Scotians with life-threatening illnesses are about to come true:
For 12 year old Cody, suffering from a benign brain tumour, fun is the great outdoors and anything he can do in it: swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and seeing the wildlife. Cody's most heartfelt wish is to go to Sunds Lodge on Malcom Island, BC. There, in the stone and log wilderness retreat, Cody dreams of whale watching, hiking the trails with his family and hunting for the fun that's been a little scarce on the ground for him lately.
Though too young to drive, Ian, who has severe Von Willebrand disease - a hemophilia-like genetic bleeding disorder - is passionate about cars. He wants to be a car customizer when he grows up. His wish is to visit the Ferrari factory in Italy.
Tyler has facio scapula humeral muscular dystrophy, a progressive skeletal muscular disorder. He has faced many challenges because of it, but is determined to go to Iceland, a trip he wants to take with his uncle and his best friend. His favorite band, Sigur Ros, hails from Iceland and as a musician who has written and performed his own music, Tyler connects with their music which is inspired by the land, and whose songs, it is said, capture the "spirit of hope and sorrow, inexorably intertwined".
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada and the families of these wish recipients are available for interviews.
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 15,000 children and their families. This year, the Foundation expects to grant 1,000 new wishes and is proud to have never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. The Foundation is a grassroots charity with chapters in every province and territory.
