OTTAWA, Aug. 28, 2018 /CNW/ - CARE Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of three new directors to its Board.
Joining the Board are Jocelyne Lafrenière, Michael J. McLaughlin and Anar Simpson.

Jocelyne Lafrenière CPA, CA is President and CEO of JFL International Inc. She is a retired partner of KPMG Canada, where she led the Compliance Services and the International Development Assistance Services of their Ottawa office. She is the author of the inspiring book, Hello, Marvelous You, and one of the co-authors of the book The Soul of Success. Ms. Lafrenière has actively championed for the empowerment of women, the protection of children, and education. She is a former President of the Quebec Business Women Network (Outaouais region) and Vice-President of Femmes d'affaires sans frontières. Her investment in youth has been wide-ranging, from being a volunteer with Youth Action, to her role as a Board Member of Kids Connection Haiti (Canadian branch) and Save the Children Canada. Ms. Lafrenière is founder and president of the JFL Foundation, which advances the lives of underprivileged people around the world through education and entrepreneurship.
Michael J. McLaughlin FCPA, FCMA is an independent consultant and President of McLaughlin Performance Management Consultants Inc. Over the past ten years, he has developed and delivered performance audit courses in Canada, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia as well as for the UNDP Internal Audit. Mr. McLaughlin was the Deputy Auditor General of Canada when he retired from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada in 2002. He held the position of Deputy Auditor General of Canada from 1997 to 2002, where he was responsible for the overall management of the Office including Audit Operations, and was the Senior Financial Officer. He has worked for several federal government departments, a Crown corporation and a private foundation through his extensive career. Mr. McLaughlin is currently a member of the Audit and Evaluation Committee of the Office of Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada and Chair of the Public Financial Management Advisory Committee of CPA Canada.
Anar Simpson is the Global Ambassador for Technovation, which is building a pipeline of young girls to enter STEM careers in over 100 countries. She was appointed as a Deputy to the UN High Level Panel on Women's Economic Empowerment and served as the Special Advisor, Women, Girls and Technology, Office of the Chair at Mozilla. She is the Strategic Partnerships Advisor to the US State Department's TechWomen initiative. Ms. Simpson has been recognized for her leadership and outstanding contribution to closing the industry gender gap. She was awarded the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Calgary, the 2015 GEM Tech Award for Technovation from the ITU and UN Women, and GSMA Global Mobile Leadership Award. In 2017, she was recognized as a Women of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
While CARE welcomes its new members, the organization would also like to highlight the contribution of those who have left the board: Diane Joly and Helen Wesley.
CARE Canada's Board of Directors consists of respected Canadian leaders from diverse backgrounds from business, academia, politics and the public service. Board members are responsible for the financial and strategic oversight of the organization as well as its mission and mandate.
