THUNDER BAY, ON, Sept. 1, 2017 /CNW/ - Thunder Bay is being starved of the resources and public services it needs because Ontario's politicians continue to sell off and privatize services like Hydro One. A special town hall meeting on Wednesday, September 6, will address this increasingly urgent issue, and give people the information they need to start fighting back.
"Thunder Bay is a strong, proud community," says Ed Arvelin, Executive Board Member of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), which is sponsoring the "We Own It" anti-privatization campaign. "But like any community, it needs strong public services to remain healthy, safe, and prosperous for all.
"Privatization weakens public services because it costs more and delivers less. When we stop privatization, Thunder Bay will benefit."
All citizens are invited to the town hall. Municipal and provincial politicians and candidates have been invited as well.
"Communities across Ontario, Canada, and the world are reaping real benefits by saying no to privatization and yes to public services," says Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President of OPSEU.
"It's time for Thunder Bay to reap those benefits, too."
