TORONTO, May 16, 2019 /CNW/ -- thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada is celebrating the two-year anniversary of its Engineering Centre located at 270 Finchdene Square in Scarborough, Ontario. The state-of-the-art $3 million facility, the only one of its kind in Canada, features new installation and modernization engineering, Canadian board repair, elevator simulators, a customer showroom and a parts warehouse. Hundreds of service technicians and sales personnel are trained at the Engineering Centre annually.
The Engineering Centre went through a recent expansion, bringing its construction and modernization teams, as well as one branch, under its roof. More than 30 employees relocated, bringing the total number of employees at the Engineering Centre to 87.
"The Engineering Centre exemplifies the investment and commitment we continue to make in Canada, and it represents a major milestone in building transportation innovation and service in Ontario and throughout Canada," said Blaine Coupal, CEO of thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada.
In addition to the Engineering Centre, thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada recently centralized multiple locations into its new shared services facility at 2075 Kennedy Road in Toronto. The modern 17,000-square-foot space is home to thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada's finance, procurement, IT, payroll, HR and safety departments. Its design mirrors the Finchdene facility, creating a synergy throughout locations where open collaboration and vibrant spaces inspire employees to achieve more.
"It's not just about creating a better future for thyssenkrupp and our valued employees, it's about creating a better future for all buildings and passengers in Canada, and we're very proud to be leading that charge," Coupal added.
On top of advancing urban mobility, thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada has also shown a comparable commitment in its fight to help end Cystic Fibrosis. Since adopting Cystic Fibrosis Canada as its charity nearly three years ago, thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada has raised close to $300,000.
Key fundraising events have included Strike Out CF I and II, a bowling event in Ottawa that has raised nearly $30,000; Curling for a Cure bonspiel in Ontario, which raised an event record $22,000 this year; as well as the popular PUCK CF Charity Hockey Tournament. Last year's event raised $40,000 and included an appearance by former Toronto Maple Leafs player Wendel Clark, who played in the championship game, in addition to signing autographs and taking pictures.
Upcoming events include a Drive for the Cure golf event, which is being held by thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada's Calgary office on June 10, 2019, as well as PUCK CF 2.0, which is scheduled for September 11, 2019, in Scarborough.
"The support we receive from across the country leaves me in awe," said thyssenkrupp Elevator Canada's Cystic Fibrosis Ambassador, Meaghan Addante, who was diagnosed with CF when she was seven months old. "I love this job and am so fortunate to be able to work for a cause so close to my heart."
Addante and some of her thyssenkrupp colleagues will wrap up CF Awareness Month in May with Canada's national Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History on May 26, 2019.
