Tickets now on sale for Chefs for UNICEF Water for Life Dinner
Event will feature special guest speaker and award winning cuisine
HALIFAX, Jan. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Tickets are now on sale for one of Halifax's premier charity events, the Chefs for UNICEF Water for Life dinner on Wednesday April 9, at the World Trade and Convention Centre.
For the second year, UNICEF is pleased to have Colin MacDonald, Chairman of Clearwater as our Honorary Chair. He is a distinguished corporate and community leader who is making a difference in the lives of children.
Guests will enjoy an unforgettable dining experience from more than 20 of Nova Scotia's premier chefs and exclusive insights into UNICEF's work responding to humanitarian crises from guest speaker UNICEF Canada's Ambassador Bayan Yammout.
Born in Lebanon during the civil war, Bayan Yammout spent 17 years living in a war zone, witnessing first-hand what it means to be a child impacted by conflict – hiding in bomb shelters, searching for water, losing family members. She also recalls the many ways in which UNICEF helped her, her family and everyone around them. She grew up seeing her parents helping others by distributing UNICEF emergency supplies in shelters, providing educational activities to children, transporting injured people to the hospital, and risking their lives to help others.
"The evening will serve as a reminder of the many challenges that still exist for children around the world and also a celebration of the Halifax community's incredible support for UNICEF's work over the last 22 years," says Honorary Chair Colin MacDonald.
The goal of this year's Chefs for UNICEF Water for Life dinner is to raise $225,000 to support UNICEF's work improving children's access to clean and safe drinking water around the world.
Water is an essential right and a vital need and although significant improvements have been made, globally 768 million people lack access to safe drinking water. Through the generous support of donors, UNICEF works in more than 100 countries improving water supplies and sanitation facilities while promoting safe hygiene.
Individual tickets for the Chefs for UNICEF Water for Life dinner are $250 each. Tables of ten are also available. To order tickets, please call 1(800) 819-0889 ext 8204. Learn more at www.unicef.ca
