TIE A YELLOW SHOELACE AROUND YOUR FINGER TO SUPPORT ALZHEIMER'S
…21st annual Walk seeks to raise $500,000
TORONTO, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - On Saturday, January 29, 2011, over 2,000 feet will take an inspirational indoor walk to support the Alzheimer Society of Toronto's 21st signature fundraising event, the 2011 Manulife Walk for Memories. Beginning and ending at Brookfield Place (Bay and Front Street), the 45-minute walk winds through the city's underground PATH system, with live entertainment on stage at the Allen Lambert Galleria and throughout the route.
Participants are invited to tie a yellow shoelace around their finger to honour and remember those in their lives who've been touched by Alzheimer's. Participants bring photos and stories of their special someone to post on our Wall of Memories.
The mission of the Alzheimer Society is to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders and to promote research.
The Walk provides great entertainment and goodies for everyone, as well as prizes for the best walkers and teams. Dress up in a unique costume—from look-a-likes (think Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, or Lucille Ball), to something from your favourite musical era or come in your national dress.
According to Bojana Milanovic, Special Events Coordinator, "Teams have been the backbone of the Walk and last year's event had 127 Teams. Forming a team is a wonderful way to bring family, friends, and colleagues together to honour or remember someone special in your life. Teams represent people of all ages and backgrounds and can be any size".
Agenda:
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Welcome ceremonies, featured speakers, and warm-up exercises are at 10:00 a.m.
The Walk starts at 10:30 a.m. Closing ceremonies and prizes are at 11:30 a.m.
