TIEd Together - Turning the lens on prostate cancer
Multi-city photography exhibit comes to Vancouver
VANCOUVER, May 7, 2012 /CNW/ - From May 7 to 13, Vancouver will host TIEd Together, a photo exhibition by PhotoSensitive in partnership with Prostate Cancer Canada. This unique and memorable photo exhibit is part of a multi-city tour which showcases over 100 images and stories of people affected by prostate cancer.
The exhibition is a Canadian-first community awareness initiative exposing the devastating physical, emotional and mental impact of living with prostate cancer. It includes portraits of real people with real stories including notables such as Jack Layton, Pierre Trudeau, Alex Baumann, Brett Wilson and Preston Manning. In addition, the exhibition also has a touch screen unit displaying 10 personal video interviews with prostate cancer survivors and their loved ones from across Canada.
For over 20 years, PhotoSensitive has been highlighting social issues through black-and-white photography, covering topics such as AIDS, environmental issues, health, First Nations literacy and natural disasters. With TIEd Together, PhotoSensitive is now turning its lens onto the issue of prostate cancer.
There has never been a more pressing need to raise awareness of this condition. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict men, with more than 25,000 Canadian men expected to be diagnosed this year. During his lifetime, one in seven men will be diagnosed with the disease.
TIEd Together will be in Vancouver for a limited time at Park Royal West Vancouver Shopping Centre. During this time the community is encouraged to view the exhibit before it continues its journey across Canada.
Media are also invited to view the exhibit to experience first-hand the impact of the photos and stories. Interview opportunities are available with Prostate Cancer Canada representatives and a local prostate cancer survivor who is willing to share his personal journey battling the condition in order to help raise awareness of this condition.
TIEd Together was made possible through sponsorship from Janssen, Amgen and Sanofi Aventis. For more information about the exhibit or to view the online gallery please visit www.photosensitive.com.
