OAKVILLE, ON, March 1, 2013 /CNW/ - The Tim Hortons Brier returns to Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta March 2-10, 2013 for the 84th annual Canadian Men's Curling Championship.
This is the sixth time the city has hosted the Canadian men's curling championship, the last of which was the inaugural edition of the Tim Hortons Brier, an event that holds the record for the highest attended championship still to this day.
"We are very proud to be the title sponsor of the Tim Hortons Brier," explains David McMullen, VP Marketing, Tim Hortons, Canada. "Canadian curling and Tim Hortons share a rich tradition, not only through sponsorship of first class events like the Brier, but also by encouraging young people to try the sport at an early age through our Timbits Little Rocks curling program. We are especially thrilled to be bringing this premier event back to Edmonton, home of our first Tim Hortons Brier, for what will no doubt be a very exciting tournament."
This is the 84th edition of the Brier and the ninth one sponsored by Tim Hortons, Canada's largest quick service restaurant chain in Canada. The Canadian men's curling championship began in 1927 in Toronto and has been held each year since, with the exception of 1943 - 1945. After being held in Toronto from 1927-1939, the Brier went 'national' in 1940, when staged in Winnipeg. It has subsequently been played in every province at least once and in 31 different cities from coast-to-coast.
