NIKOPOL, Ukraine, March 29, 2019 /CNW/ - Nikopol City Mayor, Andriy Fisak awarded Michael Yurkovich Chief Executive Officer of TIU Canada, today with a unique recognition. The city mayor recognized Yurkovich with an award for having contributed to the development of the energy infrastructure of the city, supported international investment, and helped to development cooperation between Canadian and Ukrainian municipalities. Upon receiving the award, Yurkovich said, "I am honored to receive this award and we highly value the strong bond with the Nikopol community."
TIU Canada is an energy company working in the sphere of the renewable energy, and is based in Calgary, Alberta. In Ukraine, the company started its operation in June 2017, becoming the first Canadian investor in Ukrainian economy under the Canadian Ukrainian Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA).
First project of TIU Canada was built on the territory of the Nikopol ferroalloy plant – a 10,5-megawatt solar station. The construction began in June, and ended in November of 2017, with the total volume of investment of 10,5 million Euros.
The station consists of 32,304 solar panels, with 392 inverters installed to manage the power output. More than 105 kilometers of cables were used during the station's construction, and the area used for the station totals 15 hectares. The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) eliminated in comparison with coal fueled power stations is 12,738 tons per year. In September 2018, TIU Canada announced the ground breaking on a new 13.5 MW facility in the Mykolayiv region.
