TORONTO, Feb. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - TMX Group Limited today announced January 2014 trading statistics for its diversified group of marketplaces - Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, TMX Select, Alpha, Montreal Exchange (MX) and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Trading volume on Toronto Stock Exchange in January 2014 increased 21% compared to December 2013, and increased 7% compared to January 2013. Volume on TSX Venture Exchange increased 6% in January 2014 compared to the previous month, but decreased 4% compared to January 2013. Trading volume on TMX Select in January 2014 increased 38% compared to the previous month, and increased 68% compared to January 2013. Alpha trading volume in January 2014 increased 18% compared to December 2013, but was down 40% compared to the same month a year earlier.
In January 2014 volume on MX increased 20% compared to the previous month, and increased 8% compared to January 2013. Open interest contracts at the end of January 2014 decreased 2% from the end of December 2013, but increased 4% year-over-year.
Volume on NGX in January 2014 increased 43% compared to December 2013, and increased 23% from January 2013.
