TORONTO, Feb. 2, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Since heart disease is the number one killer of women, and February is Heart Health Month, now is the time to commit to having a #ChangeofHeart. From February 1 – 28, Jamieson Vitamins is inviting Canadian women to join their #ChangeofHeart Challenge – an easy, fun, lifestyle challenge that shows participants simple changes they can make to their daily routines to help improve their heart health.
"Canadian women are known for their big, generous hearts, but in reality women's hearts aren't as strong as they think. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and women need to act now to start taking better care of their hearts," says Michelle Latinsky, Registered Dietitian at Jamieson Vitamins. "We designed our #ChangeofHeart Challenge to get women talking about the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle and show them small heart-friendly changes they can incorporate into their daily lives."
With a new activity every day in February, #ChangeofHeart challenges will shed light on practical tips for reducing stress, becoming and staying more active, eating a heart-healthy diet and getting sufficient sleep. To join the Challenge, simply visit facebook.com/jamiesonvitamins and sign up. During February, a new challenge, along with tips and facts about heart health, will be posted daily on Facebook. Each time a participant completes a daily challenge, they can enter a weekly draw to win a Jamieson heart health prize pack which includes a wireless activity tracker, gym bag, 3-month supply of Jamieson OmegaREDTM Super Krill and more.
In recognition of the importance of heart health and all of the Canadians who will be participating in the #ChangeofHeart Challenge, Jamieson will be making a $25,000 donation to the leading cardiac care facility in Canada, the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.
"Although cardiovascular disease poses an enormous threat to women's health, many of the risk factors, including smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, high blood cholesterol, an unhealthy diet and hypertension can be lowered or prevented through lifestyle choices women control," says Dr. Heather Ross, Cardiologist, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and Director of the Ted Rogers Centre of Excellence in Heart Function. "Awareness of risk factors and early prevention can make a significant difference in lowering the risk and improving the outcome of heart disease."
"One of the easiest steps to improving your heart health is simply taking OmegaREDTM Super Krill supplements each day to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and improve circulation," added Latinsky.
Jamieson OmegaREDTM Super Krill, an easy-to-swallow softgel with no fishy repeat, is the key supplement women should take every day for heart health. An omega-3 option that delivers more absorption than traditional omega-3 oils, it has been clinically proven to help maintain heart health by reducing levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and increasing levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. Available in 300, 500, and 1,000 mg formulas, Jamieson OmegaREDTM Super Krill is made from 100% Antarctic krill oil. Antarctic krill oil contains the potent antioxidant astaxanthin, making OmegaREDTM Super Krill an antioxidant source almost fifty times more effective than other omega-3 products. Before taking any new supplement, consumers should check with their healthcare provider to make sure it is appropriate for them.
