Today: Retirees and youth to hold a tea party at Tim Hudak's office in protest against promised cuts to services

TORONTO and NIAGARA, ON, June 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Hundreds of retirees, young workers and students will be hosting a tea party in front of PC leader Tim Hudak's Beamsville constituency office today, Monday June 9 at 12 noon.

The National Pensioners Federation has organized the rally in protest against Tim Hudak's platform which it says would have disastrous effects on the young and old alike.

"We think he is ignoring the concerns of seniors and young people, so we decided to have a tea party at his office to create an opportunity to let him know," said Herb John, President of the National Pensioners Federation. "He has imported many of his ideas from the Tea Party in the U.S. - that's why a tea party is so appropriate."

"Cuts to public services and public sector jobs will have a huge impact on young people looking for work and seniors who rely on much needed services that have a direct effect on their quality of life," said John.

• Herb John, President of the National Pensioners Federation;
• Melisa Larue, young worker and the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator at the Windsor Workers' Education Centre;
• Malcolm Buchanan, President of the Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville Chapter of the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada, former president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation;
• Jada Malott, grade 4 student, active in community and school issues.

Attendees will leave thank you cards, where they will write their concerns.
