Tommy Johnson of Shaw Cable in Dryden to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Tommy Johnson, a producer with Shaw Cable in Dryden will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 12, 2013 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
One of the major challenges for fire departments in Northwestern Ontario is trying to reach residents with life-saving fire safety information throughout this vast geographic region. The Kenora District Fire Mutual Aid Association (KDFMAA) is fortunate to have Johnson, a producer with Shaw Cable in Dryden, to help them with this task.
Comprised of 15 fire chiefs from across Kenora District, the KDFMAA relies on Johnson to cover many of their public education activities. Over the past three years, Johnson has televised numerous events on Shaw Cable and Go Dryden. He also strives to enhance viewership by posting clips on the Shaw Cable website and on social media sites such as YouTube and Facebook. On several occasions, Johnson has taken the initiative to invite fire department members to conduct a demonstration or interview for Shaw Cable shows.
"Tommy Johnson is a well-respected and talented individual who has made fire safety his cause," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "He devotes time and energy to promoting fire safety even when he's not working. He has been known to engage in random conversations with residents of the community and question them on their fire safety knowledge, supplying information and tips gleaned through his years of partnering with the fire service."
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Electrical Safety Authority, CSA Group, Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Roxul Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada.
