Top honours for Peel Regional Police
BRAMPTON, ON, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - Every year, for the last 13 years, CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) has recognized the valuable contributions to school safety made by a Police Service.
Peel Regional Police is this year's recipient of CAA's School Safety Patrol Achievement Award. The annual award is given to a service which lends exceptional support to the CAA School Safety Patrol (SSP) program.
Today, Police Chief Mike Metcalf and Police Constable Michelle Vivian are being honoured with the prestigious award.
"Ensuring the safety of our children is one of the most important responsibilities we have as an organization and I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of Constable Michelle Vivian. Her unselfish work on the Safety Patrol Program has allowed countless parents to place their children onboard school buses each morning, confident in their safety,"said Chief Mike Metcalf, Peel Regional Police.
Police Constable Vivian is a passionate and dedicated police officer with a strong commitment to the safety of school children. The 22-year police veteran sits on the SSP camp executive. Her leadership and support helped make the weeklong camp a tremendous success.
"Officer Michelle, as she is affectionately known by her students, has gone above and beyond," said Leslie Rocha, Community Relations Specialist, CAA SCO. "Her enthusiasm for teaching traffic safety is contagious and has inspired school children to become bus patrollers."
In 2004, Constable Vivian began teaching bus patrollers - approximately 10,000 patrollers have been trained through the Peel Children's Safety Village in the last six years. Over 100 elementary schools currently partner with CAA and Peel Regional Police to run the SSP program.
This is the second time Peel Regional Police has received this distinction, the first was back in 2001.
