Star third baseman figures prominently in promotion of customized Roots Blue Jays Award Jacket
TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - In its latest collaboration with major athletes and support of Canadian sports teams, Roots announced today it will be working with popular Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson.
The 29-year-old Donaldson is playing an important role in the showcasing of the customized Roots Blue Jays Award Jacket. As part of his involvement, he will be wearing the jacket in a series of photos taken by Roots senior photographer Ilich Mejia.
The jacket, along with a special line of Roots Jays merchandise, are in great demand as the red-hot Blue Jays enjoy a banner season which has them making their first Postseason appearance since 1993. Amid intense Jays fever in Toronto and the rest of Canada, many baseball analysts view the team as a serious contender for the World Series in October.
"I'm glad to be a part of Roots," says Josh. "This is something that I feel very happy about and excited to be a part of."
He first met Roots Co-Founder Michael Budman last month at the first Annual Josh Donaldson BaseBowl charity bowling event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto where they quickly established a strong rapport.
"Josh is an incredible athlete who has brought a great competitive spirit to the Jays," says Michael, who's an avid fan of the team. "He loves living and playing in Canada and exudes the Roots philosophy about sports, that if you look good, you feel good and if you feel good, you play that much better."
Enjoying his best season since breaking into Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2010, Donaldson is a strong candidate for American League MVP and is a fan-favourite in Toronto. His keen sense of style makes him a natural to wear the Roots Blue Jays Award Jacket, a much sought-after collector's item. Made from 24 oz. Canadian melton wool at the Roots state-of-the-factory in Toronto, it features the brand's signature Baseball Tribe Leather sleeves along with authentic chenille cresting marking the 2015 season and baseball saddle stitching.
Roots, officially licensed by MLB, has worked with the Blue Jays on various initiatives in the past. The current Roots Blue Jays line of merchandise includes customized leather bags, apparel and accessories, which are sold at the Jays Shop at the Rogers Centre and the Eaton Centre, at 19 Roots retail stores and online at JaysShop.ca and roots.com.
