TORONTO, May 23, 2018 /CNW/ - Following City Council's approval of the Tenants First report focused on the needs of seniors, Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) is moving swiftly to create a new Seniors Housing Unit within the organization to manage its seniors-designated buildings.
"We are committed to providing better quality of life and successful tenancies for TCHC seniors—those living in seniors buildings and those living in other buildings—as well as all other tenants. We are supportive of the City's directions in the report. Resultantly, we will immediately begin to put the new Seniors Housing Unit in place," said President and Chief Executive Officer Kathy Milsom.
"Although the City's report calls for the Seniors Housing Unit to be operational by 2019, getting it started in 2018 will enable us to continue improving our services in the best interests of our tenants," Milsom said. "We also look forward to working with the City, the Local Health Integration Networks and other service providers in creating an integrated service model to promote aging in place and improve access to services for senior tenants."
Milsom also announced that Joan White will serve as Interim General Manager of the new Seniors Housing Unit while a competition takes place to fill the position permanently. White is currently manager of the Weston-Rexdale operating unit in northwest Toronto. During her career, White has held senior positions with supportive and alternative housing providers. She has been a senior leader in housing organizations that have undergone significant change initiatives.
